The Master Artist position is a highly flexible and dynamic hands-on role. The Master Artist will display a high level of competence across various disciplines and will focus on delivering high quality, quick turn, and diverse products to support business with new and existing clients. The team members in this department create prototypes/samples, support development of new and exciting designs, create masters for new tooling/development, create molds of 3-dimensional objects using a variety of materials and techniques, mold polyurethane parts, cast/laminate fiberglass parts, and other tasks related to the manufacturing and development of products.
Your Impact
- Build, design, and/or assist in making molds and master components either from original sculpts, master prototypes, 3D prints, or scratch.
- Prepare master prototypes for tooling and work closely with the Department Manager and peers to refine the master, with special attention to maintaining the highest level of artistic detail.
- Complete master prototypes of various forms per the direction given by the Creative Development Manager.
- Understand customer-specific brand aesthetic and conceptual needs of each project.
- Mold and cast various items for development purposes when necessary.
- Assist in developing, problem solving, researching, and progressing Master Workshop goals and techniques.
- Prepare, attend and actively participate in Master Reviews.
- Work with internal departments in a professional manner to meet the goals of the company, customers, and/or supervisors.
- Complete checklists and document upon project completion.
- Schedule and prioritize his/her time to meet necessary deadlines.
- Comprehend style and design direction given by the Creative Development Manager.
- Follow established development procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Other duties as assigned by the Creative Development Manager and/or VP of Creative.
What it takes to succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in visual arts, design, or related field. Equivalent education, work experience, and/or other course work will also be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of successful sculpting or mold/prototyping making in a professional setting.
- Extensive knowledge of mannequin creation through sculpting and master creation.
- Extensive knowledge of workshop tools, techniques, and sculpting materials; including. plaster, Bondo, fiberglass sheeting laminating resin, clay, RTV silicone, Perfect Tool, lacquer paint, solvents, and power and hand tools
- Thorough understanding of the mold making processes for organic shapes.
- Working knowledge of molding, casting, and production methods as they pertain to product development.
- Working knowledge of company processes and materials, as well as related industrial, technological, and artistic processes and materials.
- Ability to adhere to or recreate human anatomy details through hard-material sculpting.
- Ability to refine and/or accurately recreate anatomically correct human forms of all ages, sizes, and body types including heads, facial features, bone, and muscle structure.
- Ability to conceptualize new systems and processes for improved productivity and quality.
- Team player, with focus on meeting needs of customer/market.
- Possess efficient work habits, sets realistic work goals, monitors work, and keeps others informed of progress and need for help or other resources on a timely basis.
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.

- Knowledge of human anatomy sculpting.

- Ability to work with little supervision, is self-motivated, and time sensitive to set schedules.
