Kennel Attendant/Assistant Job Description:
Kennel Assistants will work with dogs and cats. They are in charge of the general upkeep of animals in their care and must provide individualized attention to them so they stay healthy and happy.
Duties of a Kennel Assistant:
General duties include keeping cages clean and sanitized; walking, feeding and picking up after the animals; and reporting on the animal's condition to the veterinarian and other superiors. The kennel assistants are put in charge of the bathing of boarding animals as well. They are required to up keep the laundry and dishes for kennel and hospital use. Kennel assistants may also be expected to help with other duties, such as help with restraint of animals.
Requirements to Become a Kennel Assistant:
A high school diploma is required for this position. Previous experience with animals is preferable. Kennel assistants must also be patient and possess problem-solving skills. Assistants will often deal with sick or injured animals, so these workers must be able to carefully follow instructions provided by the veterinarian and their supervisors.
Kennel assistants are the animal care professionals who tend to all the basic needs of animals staying in cages. While they're not required to have any post-secondary training, they will have to be prepared to work irregular hours and be physically active as they bathe and feed animals. This job is labor intensive.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $12.00 - $13.00 per hour
