Description

This Ocean Product Manager position can be located in our Houston, Texas or Overland Park, Kansas office.

The Manager, Ocean Procurement, acts as subject matter expert for issues related to the pricing, procurement, contracting and allocation management with Noatum’s ocean carriers for the U.S. and Canada. The position requires a thorough understanding of both the ocean carrier service offerings and Noatum client shipping requirements and freight movement patterns. The selected candidate will work closely with our International Supply Chain/Key Account Management, Business Development, and Operations teams to manage customer expectations and securing revenue through a targeted and clearly defined sales and new business development strategy. This individual will become directly involved with new and existing business opportunities. They will work internally to align all stakeholders and build support for ocean opportunities, ensuring timely RFP/RFQ response communications and sales presentation support, as well as overseeing post award on-boarding and allocation management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Noatum regional and global ocean team to develop and deploy the Noatum ocean carrier strategy within the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding and ability to interpret ocean carrier contracts and pricing structures. Continue to expand experience with client pricing tariffs; knowledge of surcharges, dray providers, routing patterns, and services; and understanding of the current markets for different trades.
  • Ensure compliance with all government related programs specific to mode and direction of related shipments (i.e., FMC, customs, security, other import and government agencies that regulate international trade).
  • Participate with Ocean Product team on bid pricing and contract service level agreement terms which are held in accordance with U.S., Canada, Mexico, and international laws and regulations.
  • As a market pricing feedback owner, provides timely and accurate feedback to product teams regarding pricing, based upon customer/market feedback.
  • Achieve a high win percentage of new business awarded while generating profitable revenues for both new and existing accounts which meet/exceed new business revenue goals. Work with regional counterparts on FCL and LCL carrier relationship management, new ocean product development, and core carrier strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Ocean Product team to build strategic relationships with key ocean carrier contacts to understand opportunities for creating value for Noatum. Capitalize on value creation opportunities with customers by working closely with the sales and operations teams to develop creative workable solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Participate as an effective team member with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain courteous, prompt, and efficient customer relations.
  • Comply with all necessary procedures to assure a clean, properly organized, safe and healthy environment for all personnel.

Minimum requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in international transportation, preferably with an international logistics provider.
  • College degree in a related industry or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in PC and business applications, spreadsheets, and databases (including Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong customer relations ability with analytical and technical skills that can be utilized to produce creative ideas and solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks from multiple locations.
  • Demonstrated successful negotiation and customer satisfaction skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ocean carrier work experience.
  • 5 years related industry experience.
  • Freight pricing/procurement experience.
  • Established knowledge of carrier contracts covering Transpacific, Transatlantic, and LATAM trades.
  • CargoWise and CargoSphere platform experience.
  • North America inbound and outbound trade experience preferred.
  • Experience with Power BI.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, use hands to grasp, or feel and operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad.
