Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Rural Mail Carrier to serve the Philip, South Dakota area. As a Rural Mail Carrier, you will be responsible for the efficient and timely delivery of mail and packages to residents and businesses in rural communities. This position requires a strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently in a variety of weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely and efficiently deliver mail and packages to rural addresses in the assigned route area.
- Sort and organize mail for daily delivery, ensuring accuracy and timely dispatch.
- Ensuring proper care and maintenance of the vehicle.
- Maintain a high level of customer service by interacting professionally with residents and businesses along the route.
- Handle various types of mail, including regular, certified, and oversized packages.
- Follow all postal regulations and safety procedures while performing delivery duties.
- Report any issues or incidents related to mail delivery or vehicle maintenance to the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy mail and packages, with some outdoor physical activity involved.

The contract consists of casing (sorting) and loading and delivering the mail to mailboxes in Philip, SD. Delivering and picking up any outgoing mail in the mailboxes as well as a 2-hour lunch break and returning to the Post Office and unloading etc. The contract is six days a week Monday through Saturday. The start time is 6:40AM and can be adjusted with agreement of postmaster and NBE LLC. All postal holidays will be observed, therefore, no work on postal holidays. Contract begin Date: March 17th, 2025.
The pay rate is $111.00/day for an average of 4.79 hours worth of work between in-post office time and delivering on the route. Paid out on the FIRST working day of the month.
Minimum wages while supervisor is in car with you. This could take one day or one week depending on your learning abilities.
You will be required to pass a background check and drug test. The initial drug test will be paid by NBE LLC but the backup drivers will be your responsibility. I will schedule drug test but you will be required to make the appointment. Additionally you will be required to provide a 5 year driving record background available online for about $10 to $12.
You must abide by all USPS rules and regulations and most importantly make the Postmaster happy.
