Reports to : Director, Hauling Operations
The primary responsibility of the Safety Manager involves ensuring the smooth operation of our organization's health and safety. Your primary responsibility will be to provide safety support, both remotely and on-site, addressing occupational health and safety policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations. You will play a vital role in maintaining the efficiency and productivity of our workforce. The Safety Manager will respond to safety-related requests, not only ensuring compliance to all applicable regulations and requirements; also enforcing the highest quality of health and safety practices in order to assist our employees and keep company operations running safely consistently.
The Safety Manager will :
- Administer all phases of the company Occupational Safety and health program, DOT program, and claims management injury prevention throughout all operations.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate safety performance throughout the organization and provide the executive team with tracking incident data / metrics, investigating injuries, and implementing proactive measures to prevent claims across the operations. The candidate will also establish goals / metrics for the company leadership to ensure there are clear measurables identified and tracked. This system will help frontline managers clearly understand their expectations associated with safety.
- Responsible for all aspects of the DOT compliance program to ensure drivers are safe and incidents are mitigated when they occur. This includes reviewing / modifying the current program and implementing proactive measures which will drive down internal costs. Specific examples include proactive incentive programs based on driving safety, claims management / procedures, identifying trends from DOT audits, and improving the overall DOT program.
- Collaborate with management to review and improve the current safety and health training program to ensure employees demonstrate exemplary safety results.
- The candidate will be critically involved with accident investigations, root cause analysis, countermeasures, and coaching staff on the importance of preventing claims from reoccurring.
- Provide technical advice to management for problems related to safety, injury prevention, equipment, and all aspects related to safety and DOT performance.
- Support and work within the parameters of the company’s workers’ compensation program and provide leadership with a focus on reducing claims, coordinating medical treatment of injured workers, and working with the risk manager to report claims timely.
- Conduct safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations, identifying opportunities for retraining when necessary. Stop operations and activities that could harm customers, employees, or equipment.
- Perform monthly site audits and report findings to site management to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules. Conduct ongoing OSHA inspections at each facility and ensure completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
- Provide technical and administrative support to the safety committee.
- Conduct employee training on applicable safety standards for non-CDL drivers. Maintain ongoing certifications and education requirements to enable in-house training as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
