Summary: Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this newly created position will play an important role in the accounting and financial reporting processes. This will include working closely with management to perform key financial accounting, reporting, and analysis activities on both a Statutory and GAAP basis as well as assisting with the implementation of strategic innovative financial solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the reinsurance accounting and reporting activities, including Schedule F preparation, for a wide range of agreements.
- Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for reinsurance providers, ensuring accurate and timely reporting and communication to maintain effective relationships and compliance.
- Oversee the investment accounting and reporting processes managed by third-party service providers, ensuring alignment with company standards and regulations.
- Manage the accounting of our multi-peril crop insurance programs.
- Oversee the preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory statements for all insurance entities, including a combined basis annual statement.
- Support the research, implementation, and integration of new or evolving accounting and reporting standards to ensure ongoing compliance and operational efficiency.
- Prepare and review various journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy and consistency.
- Supervise the preparation of combined audited statutory financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Prepare and analyze internal financial reporting packages, providing insights into enterprise-wide, segment-level, and company-specific performance drivers.
- Ensure effective execution of financial controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, safeguarding the integrity of financial reporting and operations.
- Act as a financial partner to the management teams of each subsidiary company.
- Assist in the implementation and management of projects that drive efficiencies within the accounting and finance function.
- Supervise and mentor a small team of accountants.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Advanced degree or professional certification preferred, such as MBA, CPA, or CFA
- 5 years of progressive accounting and finance responsibility and leadership
- Strong understanding of Statutory and GAAP accounting and reporting
- Previous accounting experience within the insurance industry, with industry-specific certifications desired
- Experience working in a public company environment or with a public accounting firm preferred
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite or similar platforms)

- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to analyze complex financial data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple people and projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to work independently and drive results, with a commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.
Location: Fargo, North Dakota
Physical Requirements: The work environment is typical of an office setting, where the employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
