Position Overview:
The Field Operations Intern will assist the Tides’ Field Operations team with maintaining and preparing the field and surrounding areas for all baseball games and stadium events. This hands-on role is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in sports turf management within a professional baseball environment. Ideal for current students or recent graduates interested in turf management, agronomy, or sports operations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily field maintenance including mound and plate repair, clay work, infield skin, and warning track upkeep
- Support turfgrass care practices such as mowing, aerifying, fertilizing, and topdressing
- Operate field maintenance equipment safely and effectively
- Assist with irrigation system monitoring and basic repairs
- Participate in pre-game and post-game setup including batting practice, field markings, base placement, and tarp deployment
- Maintain cleanliness and appearance of dugouts, bullpens, and other field-adjacent areas
- Help prepare the field for non-baseball stadium events
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Field Operations team
Qualifications:
- Highly motivated with a desire to pursue a career in sports turf management or field operations
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a two- or four-year program in turf management, sports management, or a related field (preferred)
- Previous field maintenance or baseball experience preferred but not required
- Must pass a pre-employment background check
