Position Summary

To serve as an Early Interventionist/Early Childhood Special Education Teacher who would be responsible for providing educational services to eligible students with disabilities in traditional school settings and in the child’s natural environment. The Early Interventionist/Early Childhood Special Education Teacher also coordinates for the provision of related services for identified preschool students with disabilities in various settings throughout Orleans Parish.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides appropriate special education services to assigned students and ensures appropriate assessments and IEPs are completed within timelines;
  • Develops Web-based IEPs for assigned students and serves as a member of the instructional team to develop data-based present levels of academic achievement and functional performance, and measurable goals and objectives;
  • Completes all federal, state, and local assessments in a timely manner;
  • Analyze early childhood assessment data to develop appropriate instructional strategies, as needed;
  • Ensures compliant implementation of appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for preschool
  • students with disabilities;
  • Promotes interagency collaboration among the school system and other service providers in Orleans Parish for
  • preschool students with disabilities;
  • Links families to the appropriate service delivery system;
  • Provides parent, teacher, support staff, and related service provider training to facilitate child development in
  • cognitive, motor, communication, self-help, and social skills;
  • Assists in the planning of programs for preschool students with disabilities;
  • Keeps abreast of assistive technology strategies and is able to implement appropriate strategies to enhance
  • academic and behavioral skills


Education and Experience
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Education, with certification in Special Education (ages 3-5), in accordance with the regulations of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education;
  • Must successfully complete the Louisiana Department of Education Child Care Civil background check system and any other early childhood screening requirements; and
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate


Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to special education;
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies.

  • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely;
  • Normal setting for this job is an office setting.

Salaries are determined by educational background and/or relevant years of experience.

Performance Evaluation

The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
