Position Summary
The Security Officer is responsible for conducting routine inspections throughout the school and takes the necessary steps and precautions to ensure the property is a safe and secure environment. The Security Officer provides a highly visible presence to deter or identify trespassers on school campus.
\n- Conducts routine school and athletic bus inspections as needed;
- Works with school leadership to implement and enforce security policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment;
- Conducts regular security drills and training for school staff and students.
- Investigates all safety-related complaints and secures building;
- Conducts regular patrols of the school premises, including parking lots and outdoor areas, to deter and detect potential security risks;
- Reports any unusual conditions at school campus and makes appropriate recommendations;
- Troubleshoots all safety challenges and is solutions-orientated when reviewing needs;
- Documents incidents and prepares safety reports on ALL incidents that occur while on duty, including weapons, narcotics, assaults, theft, etc. Delivers reports to school administration and law enforcement as required.
- Possesses basic first aid skills and aids in medical emergencies until professional medical help arrives.
- Serves as a key member of the crisis management team in responding to exigencies of the day or emergencies as they occur;
- Intervene in conflicts or disruptive situations, always employing de-escalation techniques when possible.
- Ensures that security equipment, such as cameras, alarms, and communication devices, are in good working order. Reports any malfunctions and participate in equipment maintenance;
- Notifies supervisor immediately when a serious incident occurs and to forward all others the next working day;
- Maintains post directives as assigned by the Site Administrators;
- Works to identify areas that are in need of safety for specific purposes;
- Performs other duties as required.
- High School Diploma or equivalency required;
- Minimum of 2 years of law enforcement experience or comparable private security experience;
- POST certification or higher required
- Authorization to carry a firearm required;
- Experience working in a school setting is strongly preferred;
- Certification in first aid preferred;
- Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License.
- Eligibility or completion of a major law enforcement academy preferred;
- Expertise in area of specialization;
- Knowledge of law enforcement, security and safety practices;
- Must possess excellent writing and verbal skills;
- Physical ability to affect arrest under difficult circumstances;
- Post certification preferred;
- Must pass drug screening test;
- All applicants must be able to work flexible hours and workday assignment;
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations;
- Physical fitness and the ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
Salaries are determined by educational background and/or relevant years of experience.

Performance Evaluation
The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
