Summary of Duties
Coordinate the day-to-day resident care activities performed by resident care personnel in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. Provide direct resident care, as necessary.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
- Develop work assignments and/or assist in completing and performing such tasks as applicable to resident care personnel.
- Meet with resident care personnel on a regularly scheduled basis to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or to assist in the improvement of services.
- Coordinate scheduling of resident care personnel.
- Participate in employee performance evaluations and make recommendations to the supervisor concerning employee disciplinary action.
- Participate in developing, planning, conducting, scheduling in-service training and new employee orientation.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Inform resident care personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignment, etc.
- Visit residents on a regular basis in order to observe and evaluate each resident’s physical and emotional status.
- Meet with residents and/or family members, as necessary.
- Review resident plans of care, and assure that they reflect current information, for appropriate resident goals, problems, approaches, and revisions based on needs.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the supervisor as necessary/required, concerning the operation of resident care.
- Complete and file required record keeping forms/charts upon the resident’s admission, transfer, and/or discharge.
- Transcribe physician’s orders to resident charts, Kardex, medication administration records, treatment/care plans, as required.
- Perform routine charting duties as required and in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures.
- Perform audits and maintain information relating to Quality Assurance.
- Provide direct care to residents as needed in accordance with the care plan, policy and procedures, and nursing standards of care.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed including any special projects.
Education and Experience
Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Alabama. A minimum of one (1) year experience as a supervisor/charge nurse in an assisted living facility or other related health care facility required. Must possess CPR certification within thirty (30) days of employment.
Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions
- Must be able to move about consistently throughout the work day.
- Must be able to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the work day.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must be able to push, pull, move and/or carry up to 50 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
- Must be able to push, pull, or move a minimum of 100 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
- Must be able to walk/stand 75% of the day.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
