The Manufacturing Engineer (Manf.E) at Nomad GCS plays a crucial role in supporting the engineering process by addressing design, process, and tooling challenges that arise during production. This position requires extensive product knowledge, strong problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to resolving issues. The Manf.E may also collaborate on new projects within the broader engineering scope, even outside their primary area of expertise. All solutions provided by the Manf.E must adhere to or exceed Nomad's standards of excellence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITY :
Review designs for manufacturability (DFM).
Create and manage metadata schema for 2D / 3D models and electrical schematics.
Develop, implement, and document manufacturing processes for released designs as needed.
Conduct design reviews, including tolerance analysis, tooling studies, and fixture design.
Analyze proposed Change Orders and assess their impact on :
o Project / product delivery timelines and budgets.
o Estimated engineering time required to complete changes.
o Timely updates to documentation and drawings.
Troubleshoot issues on current projects, providing timely solutions that meet technical requirements and align with engineering standardization.
Serve as the liaison between Production and Engineering for :
o Mechanical assembly and / or electrical system design issues.
o Production / manufacturing design issues.
o Tooling and jig design.
Identify opportunities for manufacturing efficiency improvements and drive implementation.
Occasionally assist Sales / Marketing by creating 3D models and drawings for customer proposals.
Travel as needed, based on Managements requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE DESIRED :
Apply engineering principles, techniques, and procedures to design and production processes.
Understand raw materials, production processes (welding, machining, grinding / cutting), quality control, cost management, and techniques for optimizing manufacturing and distribution.
Knowledge of physical principles, laws, and their applications to fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, as well as mechanical, electrical, and electromagnetic processes.
Proficiency in CAD software, with SolidWorks preferred.
Competency in basic business and engineering software, including ERP, MS Office, and project management software.
Demonstrate understanding and application of Nomad Core Values.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Regular use of hands and arms to manipulate, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls. Ability to stand and sit for extended periods as required by task assignment.
Frequent standing, walking, and sitting throughout the day. Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Ability to lift and / or move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Assistance required for anything heavier than 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus and distinguish colors, necessary for both office tasks and production work.
Must have the physical stamina to adapt to varying workload demands and stand or sit for prolonged periods depending on the specific tasks of the day.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT :
Work is split between a partially environmentally controlled indoor manufacturing area and a professional office setting. Temperatures in the manufacturing area can fluctuate between 60F and 100F, typically maintained around 70F in the office.
Exposure to varying noise levels from moderate in the office to loud on the production floor; safety hearing devices provided as needed.
Possible exposure to household and commercial chemicals with adherence to safety protocols outlined in Safety Data Sheets (SDS) required. Safety glasses and closed-toed shoes are mandatory when on the production floor.
Regular interaction with team members, guests, and clients in a professional setting. Everyday workwear must be business casual / smart casual and appropriate for the office environment.
Use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators or protective coveralls may be necessary for specific tasks on the production floor.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
Minimum of 5 years experience as a Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
Experience with SolidWorks modeling, drawings, and file management.
Experience with ERP software in a manufacturing environment (BOM / ECN / ECO).
Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
