AFS is seeking a dynamic and experienced Technical Director – EHS to lead critical initiatives aligned with our Strategic Plan for Metalcasting Technical Services.
This unique opportunity is ideal for candidates with strong expertise in foundry operations, EHS, and ferrous metalcasting. This position offers the flexibility of being based remotely or in the Chicagoland area , providing you with the freedom to work in a way that fits your lifestyle while making a significant impact on the metalcasting community.
Key Accountabilities :
- EHS Leadership : Provide strategic and operational leadership and support to the EHS Division, serving as a key resource and champion for environmental health and safety across the metalcasting industry.
- Committee Engagement : Staff and support AFS technical committees, fostering collaboration and driving progress on industry initiatives.
- Event Planning : Help design and execute AFS conferences and workshops, ensuring alignment with industry needs and emerging trends.
- Industry Expertise : Stay at the forefront of technical issues in metalcasting, serving as a trusted advisor to colleagues and industry partners.
- Content Creation : Convey technical insights and AFS policy positions through written articles, columns, and multimedia platforms.
- Public Speaking : Represent AFS as a speaker at chapter meetings and industry events, delivering impactful presentations.
- Editorial Oversight : Review technical articles and imagery for AFS publications, ensuring quality and accuracy.
- Flexibility : Be prepared to travel and occasionally work evenings and weekends to support critical initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

AFS provides members with advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C., technical education through its Institute, as well as the transfer of innovative research and technology to the industry, its suppliers and those who buy castings. Membership is individual or corporate and is made up of three markets, including : metalcasters and producers of metal cast parts; metalcasting suppliers; and casting buyers / original equipment manufacturers. Student membership is also extended to future leaders of the metalcasting industry at a nominal cost.
