Position Title: YouTube Digital Content Producer

Position Status: Full Time- Non-Exempt

Position Pay: $18.00- $20.00 Per/Hr.

SUMMARYThe “YouTube Digital Content Producer” has a unique and important role primarily supporting the strategy, content delivery and optimization, and monetization for our company’s YouTube channels. You will report directly to the News Director, who will decide on scheduling and evaluate your performance relative to the job description, as well as other managers. Our operation is based on a story-centric workflow. That means we prioritize story treatment across a variety of platforms, from our linear broadcasts to our streaming services, as well as social media and our digital properties. This role will be hyper-focused on the growth and monetization of our YouTube channels by strategically leveraging content from across our organization and applying your YouTube expertise to make the content discoverable, engaging, and revenue generating.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help drive the YouTube strategy and channel structure by gathering, creating and posting content accurately, timely, and continuously onto YouTube, complete with necessary metadata and adhering to YouTube best practices, in support of our digital strategies. This includes creating playlists, branding, content selection and format.
  • Manage and configure platforms related to YouTube channel management, including YouTube Studio and Google AdSense.
  • Edit videos into YouTube optimized formats, including different orientations and lengths so videos can be used as short or longer form.
  • Write video titles, descriptions, tags and any other metadata that will optimize our content for YouTube’s algorithm and enhance discoverability.
  • Provide consistent reporting on YouTube performance. Meet analytics-based goals around subscriber growth, viewing hours, and revenue generation.
  • Engage with and monitor the audience. Cull our YouTube channels for comments and content to help drive and enhance our editorial process.
  • Distribute content produced for YouTube to other platforms, such as posting YouTube Shorts as Facebook Reels or TikTok’s as relevant to those platforms.
  • Assist Content Managers by fielding phone calls, listening to police/emergency scanners for breaking news, and communicating with officials as needed to confirm developments.
  • Ensure that all digital content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of two years of experience in managing YouTube brand presence preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working in a live media outlet preferred.
  • Degree in Journalism, Communications, Digital Media, or similar program preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong editorial judgment and a proven ethical foundation.
  • Expert understanding of YouTube and other social and digital video platforms, particularly around optimizing content for the algorithms.
  • Proven track record in establishing, managing and growing YouTube brand channels.
  • Understanding of AP style and Search Engine Optimization techniques.
  • Availability for big breaking news coverage on unassigned shift.

· Strong editing skills.

· Ability to work under tight deadlines to clip and edit video for YouTube and other platforms.

· Exemplary communication skills.

· Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to work independently and with others in a team environment.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Office Tools: Understanding of Microsoft Outlook email and calendar management.
  • YouTube: Expert-level understanding of YouTube administration, including back-end reporting and managing the paid partnership program.
  • Adobe Premiere – proficient at editing and posting content in Adobe Premiere.
  • Content Management Systems (CMS): Experience with web publishing platforms to manage and upload digital content and send push alerts.
  • Broadcast-Specific Software: Familiarity with newsroom systems such as ENPS or iNews.
  • Research Tools: Ability to use online research tools, databases, and search engines effectively.
  • Live Streaming: Familiarity with live-streaming platforms and video conferencing tools like Zoom or Teams.
  • Data Analytics (Optional): Basic understanding of tools like Google Analytics to analyze audience trends.

  • Strong critical thinking skills to evaluate sources, analyze data, and make editorial decisions.
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources for clear, logical reporting.
  • Sound ethical reasoning to ensure fairness and adherence to journalistic standards.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent sitting for extended periods of eight (8) to ten (10) hours per day.
  • Manual dexterity in operating equipment and computers.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment

  • Primarily indoors in a newsroom setting.
  • Frequent exposure to medium or high noise levels.
  • A fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom environment.
