General Job Description

The responsibilities of this position are to provide educational services for students aged three to five, who are enrolled in the Developmental Early Learning program. This is a lead teaching position in an inclusive preschool classroom with students who qualify for special education services and students who are community peers. This position will require collaboration and co-teaching with a special education teacher, specialists, and paraeducators to serve students with a variety of skills and needs.

Responsibilities

Create a supportive, warm, and welcoming environment for children and parents

Plan and implement classroom lessons for students aged 3-5

Implement a specialized program of instruction as directed to meet the educational needs of students based on recommendations from assigned specialists

Assess student progress, set goals for student growth, and monitor student progress

Maintain records, logs, charts, assignments, and other records for assessment of student progress

Carry out duties for student registration and orientation to the preschool program

Work effectively with staff as a collaborative team member

Work positively with students and adults and handle stressful situations

Monitor student behavior to promote safe and appropriate student behavior

Establish and maintain effective communication with the students, parents, and staff

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

AA or BA degree in early childhood education, (BA degree preferred), elementary/special education or related field (minimum 36 credits in early childhood)

Knowledge of early childhood development, special needs, and current issues related to early childhood

Experience working with diverse family experiences and lifestyles

First aid/CPR/AED training or willingness to receive training required

Ability and willingness to learn specific skills/techniques as directed to provide for the student’s educational needs and progress

Bilingual ability in Spanish preferred

Terms of Employment

This position is five days/week, Monday through Friday, from 8:20-3:50, 7.0 hours/day. Schedule and hours may vary depending on student needs.

Salary range is $30.52/hr-$33.00/hr

For qualifying positions, employees are offered enrollment with the Washington State Retirement Plan.
