Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Advanced Shipfitter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of four years of commercial/naval experience as a First-Class Shipfitter and be capable of performing various shipbuilding and steel fabrication tasks to high standards. This role demands a detail-oriented professional with strong knowledge of welding, assembly, and fabrication techniques in a physically demanding environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform multi-pass tack welding as required to assemble ship structures.
- Utilize oxygen/propane burning torches for cutting and heating.
- Read and interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines.
- Measure and comprehend fractional dimensions accurately using rulers and other measuring tools.
- Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly according to specifications.
- Assemble and install structural piece parts following detailed plans to ensure high-quality standards.
- Operate vibratory tools (e.g., grinders, needle guns) for surface preparation and finishing.
- Perform air carbon arc gouging for cutting and cleaning metal surfaces.
- Follow Work Packages and Drawings to effectively plan and execute work.
- Execute tasks using Molded Lines and Ship Reference Lines for accurate positioning.
- Erect, set, and assemble complex-shaped shell plates, decks, bulkheads, longitudinal structures, trunks, and other parts.
- Install and replace hull inserts, penetrations, miscellaneous components, and complex foundations as required for structural integrity.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Four years of commercial or naval experience as a First Class Shipfitter, with a documented "Advanced Shipfitter Summary Sheet."
- Strong ability to comprehend and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and weld symbols.
- Proven experience with multi-pass tack welding and working with oxygen/propane torches for burning and heating.
- Expertise in structural assembly and the ability to execute detailed fabrication plans with precision.
- Experience working in physically demanding environments such as shipbuilding or steel fabrication.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations related to the shipbuilding industry and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ability to use vibratory tools (grinders, needle guns) and perform air carbon arc gouging.
- Solid understanding of Molded Lines and Ship Reference Lines to ensure work is carried out accurately.
- Ability to work with a variety of tools and equipment necessary for shipbuilding and fabrication.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
