Job Title: CNC Operator
Location: Portsmouth, VA
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled CNC Operator to join our shop fabrication team. The CNC Operator will operate CNC water jet and plasma cutting machines to produce parts that meet naval specifications and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, the ability to interpret blueprints, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC water jet and plasma cutting machines to produce parts according to specifications.
- Read and interpret naval blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics for accurate cutting layouts.
- Safely load and unload materials, ensuring proper alignment before cutting.
- Use precision measurement tools to verify cuts and ensure accurate dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, and report issues.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including wearing proper PPE and maintaining a clean workspace.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding project status and issues.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in CAD or 2D/3D drawing software.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and blueprints.
- Experience with CNC water jet and plasma cutting systems preferred.
- Familiarity with material types and their impact on the cutting process.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve issues during the cutting process.
- Ability to lift materials up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
- Knowledge of safety practices for operating industrial machinery.
- Forklift operation experience is a plus.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 6 months to 1-year related experience or training preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Work onboard ships, in dry docks, or shipyards, often requiring overtime.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, chemicals, and dusty conditions.
Equipment Used:
- Various marking tools, power tools, measurement instruments, and other fabrication shop equipment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
