NUI School Athletic Director Job Description
Athletic directors are responsible for managing all aspects of athletic programs,
including scheduling games, competitions, payments, nursing guidelines,
coordinating travel arrangements, overseeing facilities, and ensuring compliance
with rules and regulations. We are affiliated with the NJSIAA which requires us to
follow their rules and regulations and maintain annual dues, surveys etc.
1. Administer guidance for sports programming. We currently offer soccer and basketball. We run various parent volunteer clinics throughout the year as well.
2. Confer with coaches to establish games, events, practice schedules, venues to host practices and games.
3. Work with coaches and parents to determine travel arrangements.
4. Establish conference and league schedules.
5. Select, recruit, and oversee coaching staff all volunteer based.
6. Coproduce a postseason plan with league officials and arrange official’s payments via our business office
7. Maintain orderly, clean, and safe facilities, equipment and uniforms. Uniforms are used year over year until no longer able to do so.
8. Generate and file team statistics promptly.
9. Comply with school, and NJSIAA association rules.
10. Discuss student eligibility with school administrators. Keep an open communication throughout the season with the divisions on student’s eligibility based on grades and/or behavior etc.
11. Develop and regulate the budget and appropriate spending for equipment, facilities, referees, uniforms and more.

13. Ability to manage relationships with coaches, school administrators, parents, and the public
14. Skilled at providing motivation and direction to the coaches
15. A resourceful leader that delegates tasks effectively
16. Strong analytical, administrative, and multitasking skills
17. A proven track record with creating and overseeing an athletic department’s strategic plan.
18. Arranging and managing tryouts before each season and sending out acceptance and denial emails.
19. Ensuring permits and insurances are up to date with all facilities being used during the course of the season.
