The Plater/Production Employee tends a series of tanks using a hoist to move racks of parts into and out of chemical solutions for specified times based on a production traveler. The process is completed using established recipes.
The incumbent will work 8-hour shifts, Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Nor-ell's St. Paul facility. Some overtime work may be required.
Essential Job Functions

Place racks of workpieces in tank of oxidizing solution for specified time. Dip articles in successive baths to complete the process. Add chemical solutions according to established formulas.

Inspect coated or plated areas for defects such as air bubbles or uneven coverage.

Immerse objects to be coated or plated into cleaning solutions, or spray objects with conductive solutions to prepare them for plating.

Immerse workpieces in coating solutions or liquid metal or plastic for specified times.

Position and feed materials into processing machines, by hand or by using automated equipment.

Test machinery to ensure that it is operating properly.

Maintain production records.

Adjust controls to set temperatures of coating substances and speeds of machines and equipment.

Set up, operate, or tend a coating system to process aluminum to protect or decorate the surfaces.

Operate hoists and overhead cranes to place workpieces into the system.

Remove objects from solutions at periodic intervals and observe objects to verify conformance to specifications.
Requirements
- Previous plating and/or racking experience strongly desired.
- High school diploma or GED or demonstrated competence.
- Read and understand instructions in English.
- Basic math skills.
- Perform physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Regular lifting required for the job, with the ability to lift/carry up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Position may not be appropriate for persons with sensitivity to chemical fumes, dust, etc. Appropriate protective gear is available. Must wear safety glasses, aprons and safety shields.
Preferred Experience
- Previous manufacturing environment experience.
- Experience using an overhead crane.
