Position: Dispatcher – American Sign Language Interpreter Services
Location: Sacramento
Salary Range: $33,000 – $37,000 Annually
POSITION SUMMARY
The Dispatcher works under the direct supervision of the Program Manager. Performs a wide variety of general and routine clerical duties: Communicates with customers regarding requests, screen the information and assigns jobs to qualified American Sign Language interpreters; Maintains a database of customers and independent contractors; checks documents for accuracy; maintains files; uses a computer, phone and other office equipment necessary for successful job performance in a fast-paced work environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The function of the dispatcher is critical to any operation that involves scheduling and matching appropriate interpreter skills with clients/customers. The dispatcher oversees the scheduling, staging, tracking and reporting of the day’s activities and interfaces with customers and other department staff. The position requires an ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment, communicate information clearly, and keep a constant focus on the work with appropriate sense of urgency to complete daily tasks.
The general duties of this position include answering multiple lines of communication, scheduling and assigning work assignments, keying information into database, processing and dispatching emergency calls, complaints, and other daily tasks at hand.
Dispatcher receives and prepares assignment requests, monitor jobs in progress, inform personnel about logistical problems or updates, and handles customer service-related questions from vendors and clients. Dispatcher also records and maintains data related to the day’s workload such as customer confirmations, emergencies, and customer requests and is mindful of charges and expenses incurred.
EDUCATION
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is a minimum requirement for a dispatcher.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum one year of experience in a customer service-related field. Understanding and knowledge of the American Sign Language interpreting field including roles, ethics, deaf culture, responsibilities, proficiency levels, etc. Overall, a candidate for a dispatcher position should have an ability to solve problems, troubleshoot time-critical emergencies, and multi-task. Time management, organization, computer literacy and effective communication skills, with excellent written and verbal customer services and communication skills. The ability to handle multiple duties in a fast-paced and highly detailed environment. Teamwork is essential.
