Job Purpose

To oversee the regional finance function, leading on the financial performance of Nord Anglia’s schools in Latin and North America (currently 19 schools). This role works closely with the Heads of Latin and North America and the Nord Anglia regional and central finance functions. The role has full responsibility for regional accounting and internal controls, financial and management reporting, budgeting & forecasting, as well as the region’s taxation and treasury activities.

As a genuine team-player, you’ll work across our central, regional, and local finance teams to improve financial decision-making and outcomes. This is a high-impact role, with a focus on driving financial performance and creating value for the organisation.

Job Responsibilities

Functional Expertise

  • Lead the strategic direction of the regional finance function
  • Maintain accurate & timely accounting and financial records at all times
  • Statutory filing of accounts and tax returns in accordance with legislation and local requirements
  • Management of finance operations in line with the Company’s delegation of authority and policies
  • Implementation, integration, and support of finance systems and related processes
  • Oversee the treasury function with a focus on maximising cashflow from operations
  • Lead the shared service function in the USA schools, and continue the strategic objective to further centralise finance
  • Identify and drive a shared service strategy for Latin America where clustering of schools is possible
  • Lead the procurement function and opportunities for improving processes and structure to drive efficiencies

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Manage the formulation of annual budgets, regular forecasts, and action plans for schools in the region to align with the Company’s strategy and its education and commercial objectives
  • Analyse performance of schools and identify opportunities with Principals and their teams to improve revenue and efficiency of operating expenses
  • Responsible for performing diagnosis and benchmarking of operational and financial data to provide insights on the performance of schools
  • Preparation of accurate financial performance information that satisfies Group reporting requirements
  • Provide ad-hoc financial analysis as and when required

Operations Finance

  • Overall responsibility for the finance operations of all schools in the region while working closely with the Principals, regional team and central team in London
  • Working in conjunction with the regional team to provide support and direction within the region, helping to evaluate and challenge existing operations and commercial processes
  • Support the regional team in ensuring delivery of business cases as well as school-specific and group-wide initiatives
  • Direct, advise, and support both regional and school teams to help identify opportunities and appropriate actions to maximise financial performance
  • Actively manage working capital across all schools in the region, with a focus on collection and payable cycles
  • Interpret financial transactions and events in the region, while supporting colleagues who must make economic or financial decisions
  • Preparing and collating weekly and monthly reports for regional meetings and calls, Group performance updates, Executive Committee and Management Meetings

Accounting & Financial Control

  • Implementation of internal controls with respect to financial reporting while managing continuous improvement of the internal control environment at school level
  • Timely formulation of financial accounts and primary statements in accordance with IFRS and GAAP
  • Be the primary interface with external auditors for management of half-year and year-end testing procedures and deliverables from a school and regional perspective
  • Review significant contracts for schools to ensure the relevant accounting policy implications have been appropriately considered

Talent Management

  • Lead finance recruitment, development, and performance of school finance teams to ensure high levels of employee engagement and retention
  • Work to maximise effectiveness of the finance function while building for the future and aiming for the best people, in the right roles, in the right structure
  • Actively developing the teams’ skillsets through performance management and personal development plans
  • Be prepared to act as coach and mentor to colleagues both inside as well as outside the finance function

Feasibility & Investment

  • Work with the regional team and Principals to evaluate investments at existing schools and prepare proposals where appropriate
  • Financial modelling of school projects, including preparation of multi-year financial projections, cash flows and returns
  • In coordination with relevant stakeholders, formulate business cases including market analysis, project structure, contractual terms, and financial projections
  • Work with regional operations, central finance and corporate development to evaluate potential acquisitions
  • Coordinate necessary financial, commercial, and legal advice while also assisting with the tracking of due diligence requests and relevant information gathering
  • Assist with the preparation of presentations to the Executive Committee and Board on proposed capital expenditure, investments, and acquisitions
  • Manage project budgets including capital expenditure, exceptional and pre-opening costs, as well as ramp-up period to break-even and fair market share

Required Skills/Abilities

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or equivalent – minimum of 5 years PQE
  • Experience in accountancy software products, preferably Business Dynamics 365, OneStream, and also Microsoft Office applications
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines and the ability to gather, analyse, explain and consolidate data for management reporting
  • Experience of developing and working with budgets and forecasts
  • Experience of developing and working with cashflow management
  • Demonstrable ability to engage and manage different level stakeholders and multicultural audience/s through communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for producing reports and presentations.
  • Good cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures.
  • Excellent analytical skills – with the passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success.
  • Results orientated with the ability to consistently map efforts against identified KPIs.
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks.
  • You’d like to work in a purpose-led sector.
  • Fluent English written and verbal
  • Strong preference for fluency in Spanish written and verbal
