Job Title: PARKING ATTENDANT I (N)
Shift Schedule: 10:05PM – 6:05AM, Night Shift, two 15-minute breaks. Full-time, 40-hour work week with rotating days off. Employees are required to remain flexible to meet the operational needs of the department. All schedules are subject to change based upon the operational needs of the department to include shifts worked and days off.
Starting Rate: $20.1795 PER HOUR / $41,973.4322 ANNUAL

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to parking customers through multiple potential points of interaction. Patrol the parking facility for potential issues and report any findings to the Shift Supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The following duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Provide excellent customer service and assist patrons promptly and courteously.
- Monitor and perform regular patrols in all parking facilities, including surface lots and garages, as assigned, and directed. Report any issues to the Shift Supervisor or other appropriate personnel as directed.
- Provide patrons with accurate information regarding parking rates, availability, airport information, and directions across multiple communication avenues.
- Assist patrons with locating their vehicles in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Assist patrons requiring a jump start.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the nightly license plate inventory.
- Responsible for performing space counts in a timely and efficient manner as and where directed.
- Performs various tasks in the Parking Operations Center as assigned and directed to include but not be limited to assisting patrons via intercoms, telephone and in the lanes as needed.
- Ensures that all parking transactions in assigned exit facilities are processed in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with all Authority and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains an accurate record of all revenue collected and responsibly handles cash.
- Adheres to all Authority and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ensures that all workspaces, parking facilities, booths and departmental vehicles are kept clean and are always organized.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and directed.
- Administer and adhere to all Authority policies and guidelines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The following generally describes the knowledge, skills and abilities required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time to successfully perform the assigned duties.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patrons is critical to this position. Employees must maintain a positive attitude and provide appropriate assistance to patrons.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to make change with money.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, supervisors, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but standard written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems and work well under pressure.
- Knowledge of correct procedures in all parking operations.
- Ability to clock in/out on time on a regular basis.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
- Parking Attendant experience preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess a valid driver’s license and must meet NAA driving record requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge as may be required by assigned job duties and responsibilities.
EQUIPMENT OPERATION: Computerized parking fee computer; laptop and hand-held unit for collection of daily license plate inventory; iPad for looking up vehicle license plates; multi-line telephone system; 2-way intercom system in parking entrances and exits; motor vehicle with automatic transmission; electric vehicle, DVR for CCTV footage research/playback; 2-way radio; booth alarm, drop safe, personal computer, portable vehicle jump starter.

This job entails walking, sitting and/or standing for long periods of time; extending and retracting the arms; a great deal of stretching to assist patrons in the lanes; when entering certain booths you must step up and down approximately 10 inches to enter and exit; extensive walking required which can be from booth to booth as needed; to and from the lanes to assist patrons; to and from multiple other booths to provide breaks to other employees; to and from the parking offices and terminals to conduct business; in and around all parking facilities to include all surface lots and garages; to and from restrooms in main airport terminal; walking on uneven surfaces to obtain license plate inventory or to conduct vehicle counts and/or regular patrols in all parking facilities which may include inclining and declining ramps; holding a hand-held computer and/or iPad in one hand and punching in letters and numbers with the other hand, as needed, in order to obtain license plate inventory or locate vehicles; bending; stooping; driving a vehicle with automatic transmission; driving an electric vehicle; operating a portable vehicle jump starter.
WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS: When working throughout the parking facilities you must be always very conscious of the vehicular traffic movement around you as well as all gate arms and other equipment. License plate inventory and all other operations must continue regardless of weather conditions.
DRIVING RECORD REQUIREMENTS: All drivers must be at least 21 years of age, licensed for at least 3 years, have the type of license required by their state for the vehicles operated and meet the following driving record standards.
- License is active and NOT suspended.
- Any employee or applicant who has been licensed in their state for less than 3 years must provide a copy of their previous driving record to Human Resources.
- An employee or applicant may have a North Carolina or Virginia driver’s license as long as they reside in that state.
- An “unacceptable" DMV driving record includes the following violations during the most recent 3-year period:
- Committing a Felony with a Motor Vehicle
- DWI/DUI
- Drug Offense
- Eluding a Police Officer
- Foreign citizens with no historical driving record available to us
- Hit Run / Leaving the Scene of an accident
- Lending an Operator’s License or Registration to Another
- Open Container Violation
- Passing a Stopped School Bus
- Racing or Speed Contest Violation
- Reckless Driving
- Speeding 25 mph, or more, above speed limit
- Suspended License History – Drivers who have had 3 or more license suspensions as a result of moving violations
- Temporary Operator's Permit
- Two or more at fault accident convictions
- Vehicle Manslaughter/Homicide
- Three or more moving violations within the past 12 months
Note: Texting or cell phone violations are considered moving violations because they increase the chance of being in an accident.
