Norfolk Collegiate seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable Upper School Social Studies teacher to join our faculty for the 2025-2026 academic year. This position is responsible for teaching regular and Advanced Placement U.S. History courses, advising a small group of upper school students, and supporting the school's mission through collaboration and mentorship.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for history and civic engagement, a strong command of content knowledge in U.S. history, and an enthusiasm for working with high school students. Candidates should bring energy, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to the classroom and school community.
Responsibilities:
- Teach multiple sections of U.S. History and AP U.S. History, with opportunities to teach additional social studies electives based on interest and expertise
- Foster a classroom environment that emphasizes critical thinking, analytical writing, and respectful discussion
- Use a variety of teaching strategies and assessments to engage diverse learners
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of upper school students, supporting their academic and personal growth
- Collaborate with department colleagues to align curriculum and instruction
- Participate fully in the life of the school, including attending meetings, school events, and contributing to co-curricular programs
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in history, social studies education, or a related field; advanced degrees are valued.
- Demonstrated experience teaching upper school students; AP experience preferred
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment
- Enthusiasm for using technology to support teaching and learning
