What are the responsibilities and job description for the ANIMAL SCIENCE FOREPERSON position at Norfolk County Agricultural High School?
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Participates in the daily care and health of animals, in the general operation and maintenance of farm and related equipment, in the production of crops and in the care of upkeep of facilities. Assist with the education of students.The position of foreperson is identified as essential in weather and other emergencies.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Perform general duties in the routine care of marine animals, birds, reptiles, small animals,farm livestock, horses, dogs, and other animals.
Maintain records for animals.
Assist instructors in laboratory classes.
Supervise students and part time farm workers during on-campus work programs and at other times as assigned by a supervisor.
Ensure that equipment, materials, systems, tools and products utilized are in safe working order.
Observe safe operating and use procedures and practices.
Report all safety concerns to the department head or supervisor.
Participate in the production of hay and grass, and pasture management.
Participate in the maintenance and repairing of agricultural and industrial equipment.
Obtain and maintain licenses and permits required for the position.
Perform other tasks as assigned which may include assisting other departments in the school.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Specific:
At least two years of experience working with marine animals, birds, reptiles, small animals, horses and livestock.
Ability and willingness to learn to care for animals outside your prior experience.
Must be physically able to work with animals, in haylofts, and do heavy lifting required by farm work.
Experience operating farm machinery and equipment.
Associate's Degree in animal science preferred.
Must be experienced in the use of technology.
