General Responsibilities
The work of the Auto Parts Clerk includes a combination of general clerical tasks in maintaining the parts inventory and entry level mechanical work in an automotive repair shop.
Education and Experience
Completion of a high school education or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and some experience as an auto parts clerk; or any combination of education and experience that would provide the above knowledge, skill, and ability.
Essential Job Functions
- Orders, receives, stores, and issues spare and replacement parts used in the auto repair shop.
- Maintains records on parts inventory, verifies invoices for purchased parts, assigns purchase order numbers, and enters information on inventory control cards.
- Contacts vendors to obtain price quotes and to check on availability or substitution information on needed stock.
- Maintains cleanliness and order in the parts room through tasks such as arranging supply boxes, sweeping, and trash disposal.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs on a regular basis.
- Performs related work as required.
