Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- In possession of appropriate Virginia Teaching Certificate.
- Tuberculin skin test certifying that the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis.
- In-depth knowledge of the subject(s) to be taught
- Displays knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles to implement instructional activities for maximum effectiveness.
- Ability to motivate students
- Self-motivated
- Strong organizational skills
- Independent transportation
- Strong background in English or mathematics, preferred.
- Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
Nature of Position
- Plans, designs, and delivers learning-centered instruction.
- Provide instructional and/or behavioral intervention strategies to support students in the least restrictive environment
- Implements and follows IEP’s, 504 and LEP Plans
- Confer with student’s IEP, 504 Plan or LEP team (including when necessary physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist and other special education teachers, specialists and staff) to fully implement the student’s IEP
- Assesses learning and monitors student progress.
- Maintains knowledge and pursues professional development.
- Collaborates and communicates effectively with parents, teachers, administrators and other support staff
- Collaborates and communicates with school personnel, parents and agencies to develop and modify students programming to maximize student outcomes
- Collects, manages, and reports accurate data for accountability
- Follows program procedures and guidelines for the maintenance and security of materials and equipment.
- Understands program missions, goals, and priorities.
- Facilitates and encourages learner interaction in the home (or mutually agreed upon location)
- Demonstrates an understanding of learner’s responsibilities as workers, family members, and community members.
- Recognizes and accommodates diverse needs, abilities, experiences, and interests of learners.
- Employs a variety of resources, strategies, and materials to facilitate instruction
- Involves above average amount of walking, bending, and standing, stooping, and lifting
- Work with students who may be in a hospital or who have medical procedures and/or feeding tubes, tracheostomy/tracheal tube, catheters, etc.
