What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Media Specialist position at Norfolk Public School District?
Exempt; 7.33 Hours / Day; 200 Days / Year; 10 Months / Year
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
- In possession of Virginia teacher licensure with library media endorsement.
- Above-average amount of walking, bending, standing, stooping, and lifting in the library media center and in classrooms.
- Tuberculin skin test certifying the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis.
- Motivate and guide students in the development of reading, listening, thinking, and viewing competencies and fosters an appreciation for literature.
- Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and / or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Able to communicate effectively with students, staff, administration, and / or the general public for the purposes of interpreting, promoting, and expanding the school library media program.
- Able to provide direct assistance to faculty and students in the teaching / learning process.
- Able to implement policies and procedures for effective and efficient acquisition, cataloging, accessing, and maintaining equipment and resources. Able to apply basic principles of evaluation and select of print and non-print resources and equipment to support instructional practice.
- Build and maintain a resource collection that includes both internal holdings and external information sources in support of educational objectives and goals.
- Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports and effectively interact with pupils, teachers, parents, administrators, and classified personnel.
- Knowledge of classical and current children's and / or young adult literature.
- Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
- Able to help faculty and students design and produce resources to use in the teaching / learning process.
- Able to use electronic information sources.
- Able to use computers for library management and communication.
Nature of Position
In addition to the base salary listed below, this position is eligible for an advanced degree stipend.
Educational Stipend Details (Conditions Apply)
Master's Degree : $3,500 / Year
Master's Degree 30 Hours : $5,400 / Year
Doctoral Degree : $7,800 / Year
Salary : $3,500 - $7,800
