JOB TITLE: TEACHER FOR THE DEAF/HARD OF HEARING


REQUIREMENT:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid, current Nebraska teaching certificate
  • Shall have specific training and endorsement in the level and discipline of the proposed assignment. (Exception may be made by the Superintendent of Schools in special circumstances)

REPORTS TO: Designated District/Building Administrator

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Principal and Regional Deaf Educational Coordinator


JOB GOAL: To organize and conduct a learning situation which will enable students to master appropriate levels of subject matter, skill in communication, and a respect for the rights of others. The teacher shall make a positive contribution which will assist the student in his/her development as a mature, able and responsible adult.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine month year or as established by the Board of Education.


EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of administrative guidelines. Evaluated by building principal and Regional Deaf Educational Coordinator.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

BASIC

  • Implements Board policy regarding education philosophy/curriculum under the direction of the administration through planning, organizing, managing, interacting with students; establishing rapport with students, staff, parents, and community; and continuing professional development.

FREQUENT

  • Plans instructional objectives and activities consistent with curriculum guides.
  • Directs and supervises learning activities.
  • Implements the disciplinary procedures of the District.
  • Supervises behavior in the school environment to maintain the safety and well being of the students and staff.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, absences and tardies.
  • Uses an appropriate variety of instructional approaches.
  • Makes good use of appropriate materials and aids.
  • Instruction is individualized to enable all students to experience academic growth and personal success.
  • Communicates a positive support of the students in their educational development.
  • Recognizes the examplary influence of the educator over the students.
  • Select and/or design and administer formal and informal assessment.
  • Analyze present learning tasks and instructional demands.
  • Synthesize information from numerous sources (parents, audiologists, psychologist, counselors and speciality clinics and integrate with own findings).
  • Participate in group diagnostic activities with a Multidisciplinary Team.
  • Develop an I.E.P. for every student that participates in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program.
  • Utilize instructional materials that are congruent with the stated goals and objectives of the student’s I.E.P.
  • Arrange for checking child’s hearing aid and auditory trainer to ensure maximum benefit from their receivers.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and confidential records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Provide necessary in-service and consultation to classroom teachers and other personnel working with the student.
  • Coordination of interpreting, personnel and activities.

  • Student behavior does not detract from the effective learning climate in the classroom.
  • Teacher exhibits patience, openness, and concern in dealing with students.
  • Rapport within and outside the classroom evidences mutual respect between the students and teacher.
  • Teacher exhibits tact and self-control in dealing with parents.
  • Communicates readily and cooperates with fellow staff members.
  • Teacher accepts suggestions from administrators without resentment.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Teacher dresses appropriately and is well groomed.
  • Teacher maintains physical fitness and personal vigor.
  • Teacher shows enthusiasm and initiative.
  • Teacher is punctional and professional in job responsibilities.
  • Teacher is willing to spend time outside the regular school day to assist students and supervise school activities.

OCCASIONAL

  • Relates with staff, parents and community through positive professional cooperation.
  • Suggests positive recommendations for the continuing review and development of curriculum.
  • Remains current with professional training and shows evidence of regular professional growth.
  • Actively participates at scheduled staff meetings and serves on educational committees.
  • Assumes responsibility periodically for conferences with parents.
  • Recognizes the extra curriculum program as integral to the educational development of the child.
  • Performs other duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
