JOB TITLE : SPECIAL EDUCATION (ED) PARA / DRIVER
REQUIREMENTS :
High School Diploma
First aid / CPR certificate desired
Must pass a DOT physical
REPORTS TO : Building Administrator; Special Education Teacher
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM : Building Administrator, Special Education Teacher
JOB GOAL : Assist the teacher in providing education and instruction to students
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : School year only
EVALUATION : Special Education Teacher and Building Administrator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Daily attendance at the job site is an essential function
Assist special education teacher in helping students with behavioral and / or emotional disabilities
Listens to students read, and reads to students
Helps students with make-up work
Assists in individual or group activities, games, flash cards, computers, etc.
Assists students in interpreting and following directions of teacher
Reinforce social skills the teacher has taught
Alerts teacher to needs of students
Assists teacher in checking progress of individuals
Supervises lunchroom, playground, halls, classrooms and other assigned activities
Assists with the physical and health needs of the children
Inventories books, materials and equipment
Assists when emergencies arise
Checks bus / van before each operation for mechanical defects and notifies the proper authorities in the case of mechanical failure
Follows guidelines for loading / unloading students
Transports only authorized students
Obeys all traffic laws
Keeps to assigned schedule
Maintains discipline when students are on the bus / van and reports undisciplined students to the proper authority
Discharges students only at authorized stops
Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses / vans
Keeps assigned bus / van clean
Reports all accidents and advises about all possible safety problems
Performs other delegated responsibilities assigned by teacher or administrator
OTHER REQUIREMENTS (Intellectual, Sensory) :
Effective oral and written communication skills
Skills in organization, leadership and human relations
Visual and auditory skills for dealing with students
