JOB TITLE : SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL / DRIVER (Para 2)
REQUIREMENTS :
High school diploma
First aid / CPR certificate desired
Driver's license and good driving record
Must pass a DOT physical
REPORTS TO : Building Administrator; Special Education Teacher
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM : Building Administrator; Special Education Teacher
JOB GOAL : Assist the teacher in providing education and instruction to students
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 7 hours / day; school year only (This position will go to full time with benefits upon successful completion of the district driving requirements)
EVALUATION : Evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district's Personnel Evaluation Policy

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
Types, draws, writes and duplicates instructional material; makes educational games and aids
Listens to students read, and reads to students
Helps students with make-up work
Assists in individual or group activities, games, flash cards, computers, etc.
Assists students in interpreting and following directions of teacher
Drills - to reinforce any skill the teacher has taught
Alerts teacher to needs of students
Assists teacher in checking progress of individualized study projects
Supervises lunchroom, playground, halls, classrooms and other assigned activities
Prepares bulletin boards, charts, and graphs
Assists with the physical and health needs of the children, such as feeding and toileting
Assists with augmentative communication / electronic devices / be willing to be trained for use
Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects and notifies the proper authorities in the case of mechanical failure
Follows guidelines for loading / unloading students
Transports only authorized students
Obeys all traffic laws; observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
Keeps to assigned schedule
Maintains discipline when students are on the bus / van and reports undisciplined students to the proper authority
Discharges students only at authorized stops
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (continued) :
Keeps assigned bus clean
Reports all accidents and advises about all possible safety problems
Transfers and positions students with physical disabilities
Does miscellaneous typing and filing
Inventories books, materials and equipment
Assists when emergencies arise
Performs other delegated non-instructional responsibilities assigned by teacher or administrator
