Summary
Paints interiors of vacated public housing living units, in preparation of resident occupancy. Paints interiors and exteriors of NRHA-owned properties. Removes graffiti. Maintains painting supplies, materials, tools and equipment. Operates truck or other vehicle to travel to assigned work location. Processes work order documents.
Essential Functions
Paints interiors of vacated public housing units to prepare unit for occupancy: cleans and prepares surfaces to be painted; caulks and seals woodwork; prepares paint for application; takes appropriate safety precautions; wears respirator if operating spray painter; applies paint with sprayer, brush, or roller; inspects finished paint work and corrects problems; removes stray paint drippings; and removes painting tools from unit. Performs exterior and shop painting, including the refinishing of kitchen cabinets, as directed. Removes graffiti from surfaces as directed; may sand, paint, pressure wash, or use other methods to remove graffiti. Maintains painting materials, tools, and equipment: cleans and properly stores paints, tools, and equipment. Operates truck or other vehicle to travel to assigned work location; may transport equipment, materials, and supplies necessary to perform work assignment. Assists supervisor and other NRHA staff to coordinate schedule to turn vacated units. Processes and completes work documentation including, but not limited to, work orders and schedule sheets. Performs other related work as required.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Five years interior and exterior painting experience. Any combination or training, education, and experience necessary to obtain required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a current and valid driver’s license necessary to operate motor vehicle and have and maintain an acceptable driving record. Pulmonary and Lung Respiratory Certification is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of professional interior and exterior painting methods and techniques; includes knowledge of use of conventional painting tools and equipment, and spray painting tools and equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of safety procedures to be followed in interior and exterior painting; includes knowledge of safety procedures in operating paint spraying equipment.
- Literacy and arithmetical skills to read instructions and directions, and to perform simple arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Skill in operating standard power tools to perform routine functions, such as a power drill and circular saw.
- Basic oral communication skills to receive instructions and convey information.
- Basic human relations skills to interact with supervisors, lead persons, and housing residents; includes ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in performing routine, non-complex work.
- Ability to wear a standard respirator.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, see, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds such as ranges and furniture. Job requires color, texture, and depth perception.
