Job Duties
1. Plan direct and manage daily transportation Services operations to ensure efficient services. Assures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and codes.
2. Develop, review, and administer Transportation Services Department policies and
procedures.
3. Develop annual department goals and objectives.
4. Develop long-term transportation plans that include non-vehicle and alternative vehicle components.
5. Develop, Implement, and manage programs and services to facilitate the use of alternative methods of transportation and work habit modifications to minimize the need for campus vehicular parking.
6. Develop and implement traffic safety education and enforcement initiatives to work closely with campus planners to promote the safe use of vehicles in and around campus vehicular parking

8. Manage the Transportation Services annual auxiliary-based operating budget within established university financial policies and procedures
9. Monitor monthly department revenue and expenses to include receivables and forecast year-end revenue and expenses every quarter to include financial reports and reconcile as appropriate
10. Maintain appropriate contracts related to Transportation Services as assigned,
11. Serve and represent committees, public events, and professional organizations.
12. Engage in problem-solving, presentations, focus groups, and information sharing with constituent groups on and off campus.
13. Collaborate with the Chief mechanic.
14. Oversee the daily operations of the motor pool, ensure vehicles are well maintained, and establish a vehicle replacement schedule.
15. Oversee shuttle services (either in-house or outside vendor
16. Manage part-time long-distance and shuttle drivers, including hiring, scheduling, assigning work, reviewing performances, and recommending salary increases, promotions, or terminations.
17. Process Monthly motor pool recoveries.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have supervisor experience in transportation operations.
- Must have knowledge of and ability to operate current highway and road navigation devices.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
- Requires a deep understanding of transportation technologies and industry trends.
- Ability to work effectively with the university community.
- Demonstrated ability to develop long term strategic.
- Solid math skills adequate for computing load tolerance and mileage estimates
- Leadership and the ability to positively motivate a team of drivers, mechanics, and laborers.
- A working understanding of vehicle components, loading equipment and computers.
- Proven experience as a transportation manager or similar role
- Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations for transportation
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Detail-oriented and able to maintain accurate records.
- Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed.
Additional Considerations
At least six (6) years of progressively responsible work in Transportation supervisory responsibilities or equivalent experience as applied to transportation, understanding of business continuity principles and practices, Possessing outstanding communication, team building, project management, and analytic skills. Proficient at interpreting technical procedures and regulations and understanding and ability to apply sound planning principles to transportation management. Ability to analyze complex problems and develop workable solutions. Ability to work collaboratively with various personnel across the campus and in the community; ability to exercise initiative and sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines. Willingness to be a valued part of a team to ensure the success of the campus programs. Ability to develop complex alternatives dealing with transportation planning and the effect on campus planning efforts.
