During the internship you will receive a full introduction to the organization in our Oslo headquarters, gaining exposure to our Senior Leaders, hearing from some of our experts and allowing you to meet interns based in Oslo and London. There will also be social events and team activities; at NBIM, we nurture a culture where our employees have fun at work.
Our summer internship lasts for ten weeks between June and August 2025.
Duties And Responsibilities
What you will do
As a Summer Analyst in New York, you will work on your own project within either of our investment areas, Market Strategies and Active Strategies.
As an intern within Equities - Active Strategies, you will conduct investment analysis such as sector research and company modelling, delivering insights to our Portfolio Managers to inform investment decisions. Our previous interns have conducted projects that were valuable to our teams such as “Analysis of US life insurance companies”, “Industry analysis of luxury cosmetics", “Hotels and leisure – industry outlook and company deep-dives”.
Also within Active Strategies, we have a separate opportunity in our Real Estate team. Here you will conduct research and analysis that helps us make well considered investment decisions for our real estate portfolio. In the past, this has included projects like 'Analysis of Boston office-space market', exploring how strategic asset repositioning could improve the appeal of our building space, enhancing value and increasing competitiveness.
As an intern within Market Strategies, you would work within our Quantitative Trading team and complete a signal or electronic trading related project. Working closely with our quantitative traders and developers, you would use python to to analyze market tick data, internal trade data and possible with select dark pools and electronic algorithm providers.
In either position, a dedicated manager will set your day-to-day tasks and guide you with your project. You will also receive a ‘buddy’ to support you in your role. At the end of the internship, you will be given the opportunity to present your work to your team as well as to the wider organization.

We are looking for students from a range of different academic disciplines, who take initiative, are curious and have the ability to learn quickly. You should demonstrate flexibility, be eager to work in teams, and be interested in an internationally focused role in Finance that has a real purpose.
We are looking for people with different mindsets and who are comfortable in taking risks. You should be curious and creative, be quantitatively strong and have a sincere interest in pursuing a career in investment management.

Who You Are
Our ideal candidate will be in their penultimate or final year of their studies. You can be from any degree background but you will have strong quantitative skills and have experience of coding and programming (this is especially important in Market Strategies).
Being a global organization, it is also important to have good communication skills and to enjoy working in a multinational team, whilst also being able to be proactive and self-driven.
Ideally, you will also have experience that makes you stand out from the crowd; we want people who have the confidence to think and act differently.
