Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the organization by performing daily and monthly accounting tasks, including reconciliations, journal entries, and asset management. This role plays a key part in maintaining the accuracy of financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The Staff Accountant will also contribute to improving internal processes and methodologies to enhance operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process checks for remote deposit and distribute to the appropriate PAs.
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations for all business units.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations to ensure financial data accuracy.
- Maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation schedules and lease liabilities for Highland and Enterprise, and reconcile Enterprise billings.
- Reconcile PTO and payroll accruals for all business units.
- Perform prepaid general ledger (GL) accounts for reconciliations and ensures accuracy.
- Prepare standard and correct journal entries for all business units.
- Review and analyze burden rates and indirect rates, adjusting estimating and payroll rates as needed.
- Create and upload equipment and vehicle charges and develop a more efficient method for processing them.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare financial reports and conduct ad-hoc analyses as requested.
- Provide support during audits and ensure that all documentation is prepared for audit review.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting standards.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a similar role or industry, is required.
- This experience should include performing reconciliations, preparing journal entries, and managing balance sheets.
Language/Interpersonal/Leadership Skills
The Staff Accountant must be able to read and interpret financial documents, such as general ledger entries, bank statements, and reconciliation reports. Clear and concise communication, both verbal and written, is essential for presenting financial data to management and collaborating with other departments. Strong listening skills are important for understanding financial needs and providing accurate financial information.
Mathematical Skills
A solid understanding of mathematical operations is necessary for the Staff Accountant role. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including working with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages, is essential. Proficiency in applying these skills to financial calculations, such as reconciling accounts and processing journal entries, is required.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, the Staff Accountant must have proficient computer skills, particularly in accounting software and Microsoft Office 365 tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint. Advanced Excel skills, such as creating financial reports and performing complex calculations, are required. The ability to quickly learn and adapt to new accounting systems or tools is crucial for ensuring efficiency and accuracy in daily tasks.
