Job Overview
We are seeking waterfront lifeguards to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong swimming skills and a commitment to ensuring the safety and enjoyment of everyone at Norman B. Barr Camp. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for monitoring swimming activities and enforcing safety rules . Your role is crucial in maintaining a safe and clean environment at camp.
Responsibilities
- Be alert and prepared while monitoring waterfront activities to ensure the safety of all.
- Enforce waterfront rules and regulations to prevent accidents.
- Identify situations that put individuals at risk and intervene in a manner that prevents or minimizes the risk.
- Communicate any concerns or potential risks to management.
- Provide immediate assistance in emergency situations, including water rescue and performing CPR and first aid as needed.
- Maintain a safe and clean waterfront environment.
- Formally determine the ability of all swimmers under the age of 18 and complete the NBBC evaluation form after testing.
- Ensure that all lifesaving equipment and materials are functional and accessible.
- Check the first aid kit regularly and let management know if anything needs to be replenished.
- Maintain communication with management by 2-way radio.
- Monitor the number of swimmers not to exceed 50 per lifeguard.
- Monitor the number of children swimming to meet a minimum of 1 Aquatic Observer per every 10 children swimming.
- Prepare for the mailboat by closing the pier at 11am.
Qualifications
- Current Lifeguard certification preferred but not required.
- Norman B. Barr Camp will pay for an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course prior to the start of employment.
- Proficiency in swimming with strong water safety skills.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly demeanor.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required for equipment setup or maintenance tasks.

Expected hours: 8 – 40 per week

- 8 hour shift
