Education: Master’s Degree in Education Administration, or related field.
Credentials: Elementary Education Administrative Certificate
Training or Experience: At least three years of teaching experience; Spanish language skills preferred
Job Type: Full-Time - 210 Contract
Reports To: Director of World Languages and Principals of Truman Primary and Truman Elementary
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Spanish Language Academy Site Coordinator to oversee the Spanish Language Academy located on the campuses of Truman Primary and Truman Elementary Schools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in world language education and second language acquisition, honed leadership skills, and effective interpersonal abilities. Additionally, this candidate will be committed to supporting student development of communicative and academic proficiency in Spanish and in English, helping students succeed academically at levels comparable to those they would have reached if they had been instructed only in English. The site coordinator will be responsible for supervising and supporting Spanish Language Academy staff, fostering positive relationships with academy families and ensuring the overall success of the academy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Use knowledge of second language acquisition to guide vertical alignment of target language development
- Support academy teachers in developing second language proficiency targets and descriptors aligned with ACTFL and Oklahoma World Languages Standards
- Collaborate with academy teachers on language balance in content area instruction
- Coordinate with the principals of Truman Primary and Truman Elementary to maintain consistency of student behavior expectations, instructional goals, and parent engagement strategies.
- Lead academy recruitment for staff and families
- Organize training and professional development for academy staff members
- Establish and maintain positive, open communication with academy parents and guardians regarding their child’s progress and behavior
- Evaluate the Spanish Language Academy staff
- Lead the Spanish Language Academy Advisory Panel
- Identify resource needs and evaluate materials
- Assist academy teachers in providing a classroom atmosphere conducive to maximum learning
- Assist academy teachers in evaluating their methods of instruction/teaching skills and effectiveness of learner outcomes
- Assist with language assessment of students who are candidates for entry after the start of kindergarten
- Provide an environment that anticipates problems and involve staff in problem resolution when needed
- Maintain a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment
- Provide support for international teachers as needed
- Work through student transportation needs with district personnel as needed
- Identify additional areas that require attention as the academy program evolves
