Job Summary
- Processes, performs, and results all necessary testing for the Microbiology department.
- Reads and reports culture findings for most specimen types and performs workup per protocol
- Reports antimicrobial susceptibility testing according to CLSI and laboratory protocol
- Performs and documents all quality controls and preventative maintenance for all instrumentation
- Maintains competency assessments
- Ability to multi-task and work independently
- Assist in the preparation of CAP and Joint Commission inspections
- Reports to a Laboratory Manager or Supervisor
- Receives general supervision from Pathologists, Director, Lead Technologist and Medical Technologists
Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s degree from a two (2) year MLT or HT program approved a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent or eligible. OR
- Bachelor’s degree and Medical Technologst (MT)/Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification with American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent. OR
- 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, which includes at a minimum of 24 semester hours of science courses (six hours of chemistry, six hours of biology, and twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology.)
- Must meet the minimum requirements of the Clinical Laboratory Act of 1988.
