Clinical Dietitian-PRN at Norman Regional Health System summary:
A Clinical Dietitian-PRN conducts initial nutrition assessments for patients and provides ongoing care and education related to nutritional needs. This role requires an understanding of various subspecialties within nutrition, along with the ability to make quick decisions and prioritize patient care. Registration as a Registered Dietitian and an Oklahoma State Dietitian license are mandatory, along with continuing education to stay updated in the field.
Responsibilities:
- Provide initial nutrition assessment of patient condition.
- Provide ongoing reassessment and follow-up care.
- Provide nutrition education services for patients and staff.

Qualifications:
Education:
Required: Any program approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that leads to registration as a Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist (RD/RDN). Basic knowledge of subspecialty area, including nutrition support, diabetes, cardiology, renal, oncology, etc. Must obtain approximately 15 hours of continuing education credits per calendar year. Keep current with new findings and research.
Experience:
Preferred: Six months of clinical experience in an acute care facility preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Required: Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and an Oklahoma State Dietitian license must be achieved within the first 6 months of employment. Must obtain a food handler's permit from the Cleveland County Health department before hire or within 1 week of hire. Completion of general and patient care orientation is required prior to providing patient care.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Required: Must be able to use decision-making skills to make rational and quick decisions regarding prioritization of patient care. Have the foresight to recognize unsafe work conditions and/or practices. The ability to safely use chemicals and equipment for patients, visitors, and staff. Knowledge base for using different formulas when assessing patient nutritional needs.
