What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Scientist position at Normandeau Associates, Inc.?
Normandeau Associates, Inc., one of the nation’s largest science-based environmental consulting firms, is seeking an Environmental Scientist for the Ecological Resources group in Stowe, PA.
Field duties require the collection of environmental samples to include surface water, groundwater, sediment, fish, and macroinvertebrates (aquatic insects) to name a few. This will primarily involve working on NPDES sampling (outfall, storm water, etc.) at power plans in the Philadelphia area.
Responsibilities:
- Setting up and operating composite samplers for NPDES projects.
- Sediment sampling using vibracore and other technology
- Surface water and groundwater sampling
- Assisting with macroinvertebrate sorting and IDs.
- Repair and maintenance of environmental monitoring stations and Normandeau field equipment.
- Other project needs as assigned.
Requirements:
- Travel, overtime, weekend, and nighttime work are required as necessary, to meet schedules and project needs.
- Willingness to work in sometimes harsh and uncomfortable working conditions.
- Must be capable of lifting 50-75pounds.
- Excellent attention to detail skills.
- Ability to be trained to work on an assortment of environmental projects and programs.
- Candidate may need to pass a personal background investigation, security clearance, psychological testing, regular drug and alcohol screening based on work assignments. ***Please note that medical marijuana is not an exception in these cases. ***
- Must be able to pass an annual occupational health physical.
- Must be able to pass and maintain OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS in a science field
- A valid driver’s license
- Experience is a plus, but not required
