Normandeau Associates, Inc., one of the nation’s largest science-based consulting firms, is seeking a full-time experienced Marine Scientist/Field Technician to focus on field operations for an immediate opening in our Falmouth, MA office.
This position will be responsible for collection of ecological samples and data from field surveys, data analysis, study planning, and report writing for ecological studies related to environmental permitting or monitoring programs supporting clients in both private and public sectors throughout New England and the mid-Atlantic. A successful candidate will work with a team of other project scientists to conduct sampling programs for biological, physical, and other environmental data, while ensuring a focused commitment to safety, quality control and quality assurance. Project work will be conducted in marine, estuarine, and freshwater environments. The job requires working on both day and night surveys, including long hours in the field year-round and some travel will be required. The candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills, a willingness to learn new skills, and flexibility in work assignments. The ability to be a team player and to maintain excellent staff and project team relationships is essential.
Requirements:
- Candidate must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Fisheries Science, or a related field. A graduate degree is preferred. Relevant experience conducting marine fisheries surveys, commercial fishing, or related equipment experience may be substituted for a degree.
- Candidate must have demonstrated experience operating vessels, preferably in coastal and marine waters. A captain’s license, boating license, or boating safety certifications are preferred.
- Candidate must have experience collecting water quality, sediment, benthos, and/or fish samples.
- Candidate should be a certified diver able to demonstrate both training and experience in SCUBA diving.
- Travel, overtime, weekend, and nighttime work are required as necessary, to meet schedules and project needs.
- The willingness to work in sometimes harsh and uncomfortable working conditions.
- Candidate must be capable of lifting 75-100 pounds independently or with assistance.
- Candidate must be able to pass drug screening and could be subject to random drug testing depending on client requirements. A preferred candidate should be able to pass a background screening for security clearance to work inside secure facilities.
- Candidate must be able to pass an annual occupational health physical.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Candidate should have experience maintaining small boats and a variety of field equipment.
- Candidate must be proficient with the full suite of Microsoft Office.
- Candidate should have technical experience with scientific, report, or proposal writing.
- Candidate must be self-motivated, organized, and able to switch between diverse tasks with ease.
