JOB SUMMARY

The ISS Monitor position is responsible for ensuring that students that are placed in the In-School Suspension Program work on study habits, classroom behavior skills, and a positive self-image. This position is also responsible for coordinating student receipt and completion/progress of classroom assignments and activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Establish high standards and expectations for all students to accept responsibility for behavior and inform students of rules and expectations. Establish a professional rapport with students that earns their respect.
  • Supervise students and consistently administer rules regarding student behavior during school hours and after school detention as well. Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, using school approved procedures.
  • Maintain an atmosphere in which students are expected to remain seated and silent during the time period. Monitor students traveling to bathrooms, cafeteria and water fountain.
  • Work with the administration to have in-school and after school serve as an effective preventative disciplinary technique. Seek assistance of the parents and the administration when needed.
  • Keep accurate records of student attendance and behavior, including any tardiness, and submit to the administration in a timely manner.
  • Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom, managing, when appropriate, multiple instructional activities simultaneously.
  • Monitor the pacing of instruction and budget class time efficiently by providing clear directions, outlining expectations, and effectively bringing to closure instructional experiences.
  • Use effective written, oral and presentation skills when employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech when communicating with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques.
  • Adhere to Missouri school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, JEGB policies and regulations, NSC school regulations and procedures and contractual obligations.

  • Ability to work with and manage “at risk” students and accurately record their progress
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to be able to exercise organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate oral and/or written ideas and directives clearly and effectively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to non-public information
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations
  • Ability to implement “Discipline that Restores” Strategies

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION


Minimum Qualifications

College Degree Preferred

Minimum of 60 College Credit Hours Required
