The Safety and Security Dispatch Officer (SSDO) serves as the central hub for coordinating responses to
security incidents and monitoring safety across the school district. This role involves maintaining constant
communication with security personnel, managing the flow of information to ensure timely and effective
responses to emergencies, and overseeing the use of security systems such as surveillance cameras and
access control systems. By efficiently directing resources and information, the SSDO plays an integral role
in maintaining a safe environment for both employees, visitors and students, ensuring that security
protocols are executed smoothly and effectively. Through their diligent oversight, they help to minimize
risks and contribute to the overall security posture of the district.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Receive and prioritize incoming calls for service, determining the nature and urgency of each call to dispatch appropriate security personnel.
  • Monitor alarm systems and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to detect unauthorized access or activities within the premises.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency responders during incidents requiring external intervention, providing them with accurate information and logistical support.
  • Log all security incidents and dispatch activities in a detailed report, ensuring accurate record-keeping for future reference and analysis.
  • Manage the issuance and tracking of keys and access cards to authorized personnel, ensuring secure access control to sensitive areas.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions to security personnel during emergency situations, ensuring a coordinated and effective response.
  • Schedule and dispatch security personnel for regular patrols and specific assignments, optimizing coverage and response times.
  • Handle non-emergency tasks such as assisting with lost and found property inquiries and coordinating with maintenance staff for facility-related issues.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Monitors and coordinates all transmissions in accordance with FCC Guidelines
  • Receives calls and requests for security and/or emergency services and dispatches appropriate assistance
  • Receives and disseminates all critical and incoming information to Security Director and Director of Public Affairs
  • Communicates and coordinates with the Transportation Division relating to all bus problems (i.e.,accidents, missing students, disciplinary actions)
  • Monitors, records, and refers all messages from the Normandy Schools Collaborative Hotline
  • Performs routine clerical work (including Microsoft Office – 45 wpm)
  • Assists with maintaining attendance records, radio, and telephone equipment
  • Responds to inquiries or concerns in a timely manner.

 

Attends training sessions, conferences, and workshops to keep abreast of current practices, programs, and legal issues.

Assist with developing the department budget’s and monitors its implementation

Prepares or oversees the preparation of all required reports and maintains appropriate records.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent organizational skills with superior attention to detail
  • Good computer skills with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs
  • Mastery of general office equipment use
  • Experience working with public in crowded settings
  • Ability to compute and determine basic mathematical problems and functions
  • Clerical work – 45 WPM
  • Training and/or experience as a radio dispatcher
  • Knowledge of safety officer duties
  • Ability to deploy officers and/or emergency services expediently and efficiently to security risk area
  • Communication skills/interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Good judgment / decisiveness
  • Demonstrates flexibility in quickly changing situations
  • Organizations skills / interpersonal skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently,
and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly as needed to move objects. The work also requires the following
physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: hearing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
