Night Shift position: Sunday - Thursday; 9pm - 7am
Overtime is required. Eligible for end-of-year profit share bonus!!
General Accountability
As a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), responsible for inspecting and testing materials machined or assembled with steel fabricating facility for defects and deviations from specifications in accordance with the site’s business goals and objectives.
Primary Responsibilities
· Inspect, test, or measure materials for conformance to specifications.
· Measure dimensions of materials to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
· Read blueprints, data, manuals, or other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment methods, certification processes, formulas, or measuring instruments required.
· Record inspection or test data, such as weights or temperatures and quantities inspected or graded.
· Notify supervisors or other personnel of production problems.
· Discard or reject materials not meeting specifications.
· Write test or inspection reports describing results, recommendations, or needed repairs.
· Recommend necessary corrective actions, based on inspection results.
· Grade, classify, or sort materials according to sizes, weights, or other specifications.
· Analyze test data, making computations as necessary, to determine test results.
· Read dials or meters to verify that equipment is functioning at specified levels.
· Check arriving materials to ensure that they match purchase orders, submitting discrepancy reports as necessary.
· Inspect or test raw materials to determine compliance with environmental standards.
· Position materials for testing.
· Stack or arrange tested materials for further processing, shipping, or packaging.
· Monitor production operations or equipment to ensure conformance to specifications, making necessary adjustments.
· Monitor machines that automatically measure or cut materials.
· Administer tests to assess whether operators are qualified to use equipment.
· Use overhead crane to move material to storage area.
Detailed Work Activities
· Read work orders or other instructions to determine material requirements.
· Evaluate quality of materials.
· Measure dimensions of completed materials to verify conformance to specifications.
· Record operational or production data.
· Advise others on ways to improve processes.
· Monitor equipment operation to ensure proper functioning.
· Review blueprints or other instructions to determine operational methods.
· Mark materials with identifying information.
· Sort materials for processing, shipping, or grading.
· Stack finished materials for further processing or shipment.
· Notify others of equipment repair or maintenance needs.
· Analyze test results.
· Compare physical characteristics of materials to specifications or standards.
· Operate overhead cranes to move material, equipment, and parts.
· Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
· Requires working in varying climate changes (heat/cold).
Education and Training
· Requires training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or an associate's degree. Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
· Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is preferred for these occupations.
· 5 years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers
· Proficient communication and or organizational skills to coordinate, supervise, manage, or train others to accomplish goals.
