What are the responsibilities and job description for the Roll Shop Helper position at North American Stainless?
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position of Hot Mill Roll Shop Helper is responsible for all operating functions as listed below. Operation of the Hot Mill Roll Grinder unit must be fully understood with focus of utilizing the equipment to meet all the quality and productivity goals as outlined in our quality system. The primary responsibilities of this position are outlined below.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Communication with the Roll Shop Unit Leader/Chock Maintenance Coordinator. The operator has pre-determined the work for the day and the helper will assist him/her.
2. The helper will be required to cover shifts due to personnel and operational needs when necessary.
3. Greasing of the edger chocks daily, purge F.M and R.M twice a week.
4. Checking the wheels of all chocks to determine if the bearings need to be changed.
5. Other miscellaneous activities: Use impact for loosening or tightening bolts on any/all chocks. Removal of bearing retainers and all chock components. Must be able to fly/use the crane (Maintenance and Roll Shop). Must be able to operate chock maintenance equipment including: chock washer, chock tilter, finish mill work roll chock changers, back up roll chock changer, port-a-power units and other miscellaneous hand tools. Cleaning/Painting of chocks and any other area needed. Loading/unloading finishing mill and roughing mill rolls, and back up rolls with and without chocks. Any other tasks that need to be performed.
6. To receive top-out pay of Level 3 the operator must be able to perform the Roll Shop Crane operator job.
7. The roll shop helper will perform any/all jobs assigned by Roll Shop Unit Leader.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. All Hot Mill Roll Shop Operators are responsible for clearly and thoroughly communicating all relevant information with the personnel working in all areas of the hot rolling facility within the scheduled shift. This line of communication is also important with the other Roll Shop personnel, the Roll Shop Unit Leader, the Roll Shop Engineer/Supervisor, and the Hot Mill Manager.
2. All Roll Shop Operators report to the Roll Shop Unit Leader, the Roll Shop Engineer/Supervisor and the Hot Mill Manager.
3. Other duties as assigned.
4. Participation in continuous improvement programs
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of High School Degree or Equivalent (GED), basic computer skills, and strong communication skills.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1.) Mobility: Stand (stationary) - 15%, stand/walk - 60%, walking 15%, and sitting - 10%.
2.) Strength and Agility: Lifting - occ., 70#, carrying - occ. 60 ft., push/pull - occ. 80#, climbing - occ., balancing - occ. bending - occ., stooping - occ., crouching - occ., kneeling - occ., twisting - occ., turning - occ.
3.) Dexterity: Grasping (firm/strong), finger dexterity/handling, reaching.

5. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy.
6. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.
