Job Title: Varsity Football Coach
Location: North Andover High School
Reports To: Director of Athletics
North Andover High School is seeking a passionate, experienced, and dedicated individual to lead our Varsity Football program. The Varsity Football Coach will be responsible for the development, management, and performance of the football team at the high school level. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in coaching, a deep understanding of the game, and a commitment to fostering a positive, competitive, and educational environment for student-athletes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership
- Develop and implement coaching strategies that enhance athletic performance and team dynamics.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship.
- Lead by example with high standards of integrity, ethics, and accountability.
Player Development
- Assess player skills and provide individualized coaching to maximize their potential.
- Teach fundamental football techniques, strategies, and plays for both offensive and defensive positions.
- Monitor athletes' physical fitness and conditioning to ensure readiness for competitive play.
- Mentor athletes in personal development, including leadership, goal setting, and academic success.
Practice & Game Management
- Organize and conduct daily practices that are structured, purposeful, and safe.
- Prepare the team for weekly competition through strategic game planning and film review.
- Make in-game decisions related to strategy, player rotations, and adjustments.
Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate with the athletic director, assistant coaches, and other staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, and school administration to provide updates and address concerns.
- Serve as a positive role model for the student-athletes both on and off the field.
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure compliance with all Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) guidelines, school policies, and state regulations.
- Prioritize athlete safety by enforcing safe practice and game protocols.
- Monitor student-athlete eligibility to ensure academic and behavioral standards are met.
Program Management
- Assist in the organization of team events, fundraisers, and community outreach activities.
- Collaborate with the athletic department to manage team budgets, equipment, and facilities.
- Lead recruitment efforts to encourage participation in the football program at all levels.
Experience
- Previous experience coaching football at the high school level or higher, with demonstrated success in player development and team performance.
- Proven track record of coaching in a competitive setting and a thorough understanding of football fundamentals, strategies, and tactics.
- Experience working with student-athletes, including mentorship and academic support.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire athletes to achieve their best.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and make quick, effective decisions.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and injury prevention.
Education/Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management, or a related field preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- NFHS or MIAA coaching certification preferred.
Schedule
- Position is seasonal, primarily during the fall sports season.
- Requires a commitment to after-school practices, evening games, weekend events, and team-related activities.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lead physically demanding practices and games.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods, demonstrate football techniques, and participate in physical activities when needed.
Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications. Per the NATA CBA, the stipend for the varsity football coach in 2025-2026 will be $10,946.89.
