North Baldwin Utilities (NBU) is offering an exclusive Apprenticeship Program for individuals ready to begin a career in underground utilities as a Water/Wastewater Field Operator. This program provides hands-on training, industry certifications, and a clear path to a stable and rewarding career.
EARN $21.50/HR AS A CERTIFIED FIELD OPERATOR
- Start at $18.45/hour, with multiple raises throughout the program.
- Graduate as an ADEM-certified operator and earn $21.50/hour upon completion.
- This is an Alabama Office of Apprenticeship Certified Program, ensuring high-quality training and industry-recognized credentials.
Program Overview
Comprehensive Training
- Classroom and hands-on learning in excavation, equipment operation, and key certifications through the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).
- Additional certifications, including CDL, CPR, and First Aid.
- Safety training in trenching, shoring, confined spaces, and utility operations.
Limited Enrollment
- Spots are available based on NBUs staffing needs.
Key Responsibilities
Learning and Training:
- Assist with installing, repairing, and maintaining underground utility systems.
- Actively participate in on-the-job training and skill development.
Inspections:
- Support routine inspections and address potential issues.
- Follow safety and regulatory guidelines during all inspections.
Repairs and Troubleshooting:
- Respond to service calls and emergencies.
- Learn to diagnose and resolve utility system problems.
Safety Awareness:
- Follow strict safety protocols and utilize appropriate equipment.
- Learn and apply industry best practices for safety.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Complete necessary paperwork in compliance with regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid drivers license or willingness to obtain one.
- Strong interest in learning underground utility work.
- Ability to work in various environments and physically demanding conditions.
