North Baldwin Utilities (NBU) is offering an exclusive Apprenticeship Program for individuals ready to begin a career in underground utilities as a Water/Wastewater Field Operator. This program provides hands-on training, industry certifications, and a clear path to a stable and rewarding career.

EARN $21.50/HR AS A CERTIFIED FIELD OPERATOR

• Start at $18.45/hour, with multiple raises throughout the program.
• Graduate as an ADEM-certified operator and earn $21.50/hour upon completion.
• This is an Alabama Office of Apprenticeship Certified Program, ensuring high-quality training and industry-recognized credentials.

Program Overview

Comprehensive Training

• Classroom and hands-on learning in excavation, equipment operation, and key certifications through the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).
• Additional certifications, including CDL, CPR, and First Aid.
• Safety training in trenching, shoring, confined spaces, and utility operations.

Limited Enrollment

• Spots are available based on NBU’s staffing needs.

Key Responsibilities

Learning and Training:

• Assist with installing, repairing, and maintaining underground utility systems.
• Actively participate in on-the-job training and skill development.

Inspections:

• Support routine inspections and address potential issues.
• Follow safety and regulatory guidelines during all inspections.

Repairs and Troubleshooting:

• Respond to service calls and emergencies.
• Learn to diagnose and resolve utility system problems.

Safety Awareness:

• Follow strict safety protocols and utilize appropriate equipment.
• Learn and apply industry best practices for safety.

Documentation:

• Maintain accurate records of work performed.
• Complete necessary paperwork in compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license or willingness to obtain one.
• Strong interest in learning underground utility work.
• Ability to work in various environments and physically demanding conditions.
• Team-oriented with the ability to follow instructions.
