Position Title: Medical Assistant- Behavioral Health
Reports to: Department Manager
Hours: Monday – Friday typically 8:00am – 5:00pm (Hours may vary slightly dependent upon patient scheduling)

Full Job Description:
Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant will perform various duties to keep the healthcare practice running smoothly, including front and back-office duties; answering phone, scheduling patients, referrals, billing, triaging patients, rooming patients, assist provider with exams, process prescription refills, patient follow-up and processing of appropriate patient paperwork and electronic health record documentation.
Principle Responsibilities:
  • Schedule appointments by phone or in person.
  • Is accessible, available, and visibly present to members of PCBH team, primary care patients, and health professionals on a same-day basis during regular clinic hours.
  • Provides triage and patient flow assistance to the Behavioral Health psychiatric provider.
  • Handle patient notifications.
  • Process patient paperwork, referrals, lab requests, etc.
  • Facilitates Primary Care Provider and patient requests for same-day and future consultations with the psychiatric provider and BHCs.
  • Manages and coordinates referrals to specialty behavioral health services including Mental Health and Substance Abuse services.
  • Participates in Behavioral Health department team meetings and other organizational meetings as assigned.
  • Assists with coordinating interpretation services for the psychiatric provider for providing culturally sensitive services.
  • Responds effectively to people of all ages in a state of behavioral health crisis in person and on the phone.
  • Develops and maintains an up-to-date list of community resources, mental health and substance use referrals. Provides information, support and community agency referral for community members as needed in collaboration with Care Management department.
  • Assists in implementation of policy, procedures, and quality improvement activities within the Behavioral Health department as directed.
  • Process prescription refills.
  • Clean and prepare exam rooms.
  • Room patients, take vitals and complete patient intake forms including screener/flowsheet entry.
  • Administer injections.
  • Assist provider with exams, if needed.
  • Provide support to team members in providing excellent patient care.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Billing if needed.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Flexible, able to prioritize and multitask in an ever-changing environment
  • Good analytical, oral communication and written communication skills
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance
  • Use of computer and telephones
  • Consistent and punctual attendance
