Director of college of advising

North Broward Preparatory School (NBPS) is now accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Director of College Advising to begin in Summer 2025.

We are seeking a visionary Director of College Advising to lead a dynamic team, guiding students toward their top-choice universities with expertise, passion, and unwavering support.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the High School Principal, the Director manages a team of 5 full-time college advisors and an administrative assistant, who oversee the four-year college planning program of the school and provide personalized college guidance to a group of students in each grade.

Responsibilities

  • Provides all students/parents a supportive, informative, and nurturing environment regarding their college options and opportunities;
  • Recognizes the diversity in our students/families that mandates that each student be considered according to his/her specific talents and needs so that they may select colleges that are a good match to ensure their future educational, professional, and developmental successes;
  • Assigns duties and responsibilities to the Associate Directors of College Advising;
  • Develops and recommend policies relating to the college advising program for the review of the Head of School, Assistant Head, and High School Principal;
  • Counsels with individual students and parents concerning the college admissions process;
  • In collaboration with the testing coordinator, disseminates all standardized testing information, scholarship and financial aid information in a timely manner to both parents and students;
  • Counsels individual students in educational and career planning;
  • Writes letters of recommendation;
  • Writes and updates the school profile and reports that are sent to educational institutions;
  • Engages with faculty and department chairs to develop a partnership in which we share responsibility for preparing our students for college;
  • Ensures adequate training for all faculty involved in the college advising process;
  • Provides assistance and feedback for faculty for writing college letters of recommendation;
  • Attend yearly professional conferences sponsored by the College Board and The National Association of College Admission Counseling;
  • Conducts evening programming for students and families where pertinent information about college admissions and preparation is shared by independent experts and college representatives.
  • Promotes and implements a program ensuring college/university representatives visit our school;
  • Hosts the Sunshine Invitational College Fair in collaboration with independent school partners;
  • Keeps statistical information for comparison; and
  • Supports the school and its leadership as a member of the senior leadership team and performs other duties as assigned by the High School Principal, Assistant Head or Head of School.

About You

You are an experienced leader in college advising and admissions, with a strong background in guiding students through the college application process. You hold a bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) and have demonstrated expertise in college advising, college admissions, and leadership within an educational setting.

Adaptable and forward-thinking, you thrive in a fast-paced international environment. You are reflective in your practice, continuously seeking innovative approaches to enhance student success in the college admissions process.

A collaborative and confident communicator, you build strong relationships with students, parents, and higher education institutions. Your ability to engage diverse audiences allows you to provide expert guidance and advocacy for students as they navigate their postsecondary pathways.
