HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL SCIENCE TEACHER
North Broward Preparatory School is seeking an experienced high school social science teacher with expertise in teaching high school students with a range of abilities in social science courses (such as World History, US History, and Human Geography). The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching and collaborating with colleagues to deliver dynamic learning experiences. Candidates must have strong social science pedagogical skills and content knowledge, as well as excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and emotional intelligence. Candidates should have a growth mindset, be open to trying new things, and be great teammates.
You’ll help us increase student achievement by serving as a teacher, advocate, and advisor. You’ll deliver the established curriculum described in the NBPS curriculum maps by selecting and planning appropriate learning and teaching activities. As a genuine team player, you’ll work across our central, regional, and local teams to improve student outcomes in all areas. - Articulate the Mission, Vision, and Values of the school and Nord Anglia, both verbally and in writing.Understand all elements, goals, and instructional best practice strategies, embodied in the academic plan, as well as the ability to clearly articulate the plan to parents and students.
- Teacher Appraisal and Professional Development
- Walkthrough evaluations with academic leaders
- Parent satisfaction survey
- Student feedback survey
- Exercise good classroom management with the use of fair and consistent standards and appropriate sanctions that are clearly articulated to the students.
- Encourage students to ask questions and to express their difficulties.
- Know and use various assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives.
- Provide reports on student progress and maintain open communication with ensuring that these reports are accurate and constructive.
- Differentiate instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Identify students who need additional academic assistance and be able to refer such students appropriately.
- Select and plan appropriate learning and teaching activities that are in alignment with NBPS standards.
- Develop lessons that engage students in higher-order thinking (refer to Bloom's Taxonomy) personalizing instruction based on student needs.
- Use learning resources and technology to enhance lessons where appropriate.
- Effective organizational skills including but not limited to lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating
- instruction, designing and implementing assessments
- Ability to monitor student progress and report information in a timely manner
- Creating an environment that fosters a growth mindset.
- Create an atmosphere of mutual respect.
- Commitment to remaining a lifelong learner focused on growth and improvement.
- Conduct research on teaching methods, materials, and language games that can be used in class.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Strong proficiency with Google Suite for education partnered with Canvas learning management
- system.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for producing reports and presentations.
- Good cross-cultural, interpersonal, and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures.
- Excellent analytical skills – with the passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success.
- Results orientated with the ability to consistently map efforts against identified KPIs.
- Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks.
- You’d like to work in a purpose-led sector.
- AP/IB experience preferred
- Willingness/experience to lead academic extracurriculars like Mock Trial, DECA, National History
