Purpose Statement
The Multi-Tiered Support Specialist will provide direct intervention and progress monitoring for students who need support in reading, math, and behavior. The MTSS Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the development of a systematic school-wide approach to MTSS. Activities may include coordinating classroom intervention programs, providing curriculum and instructional support to teachers including effective intervention strategies, and implementing specialized services to meet the needs of each and every student. This position reports to school leadership.
Essential Functions
In alignment with the goal of providing targeted academic and behavioral support, the Multi-Tiered Support Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring that all students receive the interventions necessary for their success. This position requires a collaborative approach, working closely with teachers, staff, and families to develop and implement effective support strategies. By utilizing data-driven decision-making and evidence-based interventions, the MTSS Specialist helps create a structured, school-wide system that addresses student needs in reading, math, and behavior. Below are the essential functions of this role:
- Use data to identify students in need of Tier 2 or Tier 3 intervention support.
- Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of academic and behavioral interventions to help students meet course standards.
- Develop, document, and maintain intervention plans in the intervention management system.
- Provide direct instruction to small groups and individual students as needed.
- Deliver research-based strategies and techniques to support student learning and growth.
- Monitor student progress through ongoing data collection and make adjustments to intervention plans as needed.
- Assist teachers and instructional staff in using the MTSS framework, offering guidance on strategies, tools, and techniques to effectively support all students.
- Coach and support classroom teachers in implementing best practices for Tier 1 instruction and Tier 2 intervention.
- Share research-based instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement and school climate.
- Create a site-based intervention menu for ELA, math, and behavior to provide structured support options.
- Facilitate high-quality professional development for teachers on intervention delivery, instructional design, and MTSS processes.
- Participate in grade-level and student support team meetings to advise on data-driven student identification and intervention planning.
- Support grade-level and building-level decision-making using MTSS data and outcomes.
- Communicate with families about student progress and provide strategies they can use at home.
- Support district and school leadership teams in ensuring MTSS processes, protocols, and intervention plans are implemented with fidelity to meet student needs.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; facilitating meetings; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
Education: Masters degree in job-related area.
