The Integrated Pest Management Program at NC A&T State is based in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The program carries out fundamental and applied research toward the development of farmer-friendly, ecologically sound pest management technology for the efficient, and safe production of vegetables and fruit by small growers. It also conducts research on post-harvest crop protection and residential pest management. A major goal of this program is to train students in insect science and increase awareness in the university and grower community on the need for, and importance of, safe pest management at all levels.
Primary Purpose of the position
The job duties include planning, designing, and conducting laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, report research from laboratory, greenhouse, and field studies. The Post-Doc is expected to exercise a considerable amount of independent scientific and sound judgment and original thinking in carrying out research that contributes to knowledge and advances the University’s reputation in research. The incumbent is expected to publish results in peer-reviewed journals and assist in writing proposals for external funding, supervise project staff, graduate and undergraduate among other duties. The incumbent is expected to participate in extension activities and attend scientific meetings and conferences. Other responsibilities include supervising and assisting undergraduate and graduate students on their research projects and train students and personnel in the lab on insect rearing and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- The applicant must hold a Ph.D. in entomology, ecology or related discipline. Research experience in integrated pest management, insect ecology, including, experimental design and statistical analysis is required. Excellent organizational and written and interpersonal communication skills are required. Field work will require having a valid driver’s license. Experience in insect biology and rearing is desired. Knowledge and/or experience with insect pollinators is an advantage but not required.
